The Australian government announced the results of its latest SkillSelect invitation round, issuing 5,292 invitations for the Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189). No invitations were issued for the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) – Family Sponsored category.
This round, held on June 13, 2024, targeted skilled professionals across a wide range of occupations, with minimum point scores varying between 65 and 105. High-demand occupations such as accountants, software engineers, and IT professionals received a significant number of invitations.
The Department of Home Affairs emphasized that the number of invitations in each round could fluctuate depending on the volume of applications in hand. State and territory government nominations for skilled visas remained unaffected by these departmental invitation rounds.
Occupation Ceilings and Invitation Process:
The government had implemented occupation ceilings to ensure a balanced intake of skilled migrants across various professions. However, these ceilings did not apply to the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) – State and Territory Nominated pathways.
The invitation process prioritized applicants with higher points scores, determined by factors like age, education, work experience, and English language proficiency. In cases of tied scores, the date the Expression of Interest (EOI) reached its qualifying score acted as a tiebreaker.
State and Territory Nominations:
From July 1, 2023, to May 31, 2024, state and territory governments had issued a substantial number of nominations for skilled visas, indicating strong demand for skilled migrants across different regions of Australia.
