Canada continues to welcome immigration candidates through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), which allows provinces and territories to select newcomers who can contribute to their economic development.
Previous week, three provinces — British Columbia, Manitoba and Prince Edward Island — issued invitations to apply for provincial nomination to candidates in various streams and categories of the PNP.
British Columbia
On January 30, British Columbia invited 194 candidates to apply for the BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) through five targeted draws. The invitations were issued to candidates in the Skilled Worker and International Graduate categories of the Skills Immigration and Express Entry BC streams.
The BC PNP also targeted candidates in specific occupations, such as tech workers, construction workers, childcare workers, healthcare workers and veterinary care workers. The minimum required score for these draws ranged from 60 to 103, depending on the category and occupation.
The BC PNP regularly conducts draws for candidates who have a valid job offer in an eligible occupation in the province. The program also has a Tech Pilot, which fast-tracks the processing of applications from tech workers with in-demand skills.
Manitoba
On February 1, Manitoba issued 117 Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs) to candidates who are affected by the current situation in Ukraine. The LAAs were issued under the Skilled Worker in Manitoba stream of the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP).
To be eligible for this stream, candidates must be citizens of Ukraine who are currently working in Manitoba or have previous work experience in the province. They must also have a close connection to Manitoba, such as family, friends, education or community involvement.
The MPNP also announced that it is experiencing a backlog of applications and that processing times may take longer than usual. The program advised applicants to check the status of their applications online and to wait for further communication from the MPNP staff.
Prince Edward Island
On February 2, Prince Edward Island invited 78 candidates to apply for the PEI Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) through the Labour Impact and Express Entry categories. The invitations were issued to candidates who are working in sectors such as healthcare, construction, manufacturing, food processing, agriculture and early childhood education.
The PEI PNP also considers other factors besides work experience, such as language ability, education level, skill level, strategic priorities and employment prospects. Candidates who have a job offer in PEI or previous Canadian work experience may have an advantage.
The PEI PNP is one of the ways that candidates can obtain a provincial nomination, which can boost their chances of obtaining permanent residence in Canada. Candidates who are interested in the PEI PNP must create an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile and submit it online. The PEI PNP then ranks the candidates based on a points system and invites the highest-scoring candidates to apply.
