Canada Invites Candidates in the First Express Entry Draw of 2024.

Updated: Jan 15, 2024

Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has kicked off the new year by extending invitations to 1,510 candidates in the first Express Entry draw of 2024.

In a general draw held by the department, candidates from all Express Entry managed programs, including the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), were considered. Unlike specific draws targeting occupations or human capital attributes, this general draw cast a wider net, providing opportunities for a diverse pool of candidates.

The most recent draws leading up to the first draw of 2024 occurred from December 18 to 21. On December 18, an all-program draw invited 1,325 candidates with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 524.

The subsequent three draws focused on category-based selection, where candidates were chosen based on specific criteria within six possible categories. On December 19, a draw for trades occupations invited 1,000 candidates with a minimum CRS score of 425. The December 20 draw targeted transport occupations and invited 670 candidates with a CRS score of at least 435. Lastly, on December 21, 400 candidates in agriculture and agri-food occupations received Invitations to Apply (ITAs) with a minimum CRS score of 386.

Reflecting on the preceding month, December 2023 witnessed a remarkable total of seven Express Entry draws. This surpassed the number of draws in any single month throughout the entirety of 2023. Notably, this active month followed a six-week hiatus from October 26 until the December 6 draw. IRCC did not officially disclose the reason for the pause.

Candidates who received invitations in the latest draw were required to have a minimum CRS score of 546. The Express Entry system remains a critical avenue for skilled immigrants to secure permanent residence in Canada, showcasing the nation's commitment to attracting diverse and qualified talent from around the world.

As Canada continues to prioritize immigration as a means of economic growth and development, prospective candidates are advised to stay abreast of the evolving Express Entry draws and eligibility criteria, ensuring they are well-positioned to seize opportunities as they arise.
