In a strategic move to fortify Francophone communities across Canada, the Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, Marc Miller, has announced a series of groundbreaking initiatives. This plan encompasses a range of initiatives, including financial support exceeding $80 million CAD over five years, directed towards Francophone immigration and retention activities.
Encouraging Statistics:
Minister Marc Miller shared encouraging statistics, highlighting that the target of admitting 4.4% French-speaking residents outside Quebec was surpassed in December 2023, reaching approximately 4.7%. The immigration targets for the coming years are set at 6% for 2024, 7% in 2025, and 8% for 2026.
In his statement, Minister Miller underscored the pivotal role of Francophone immigration in strengthening Canada's national identity. He stated, "The numerous measures we are implementing will attract skilled Francophone workers who will support the economic and cultural development of these communities."
Special Category for French Proficiency:
The announcement also highlighted the creation of a special category for immigration within the Express Entry system, focusing on candidates with proficiency in French. Candidates eligible for this category must demonstrate a proficiency equivalent to a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of 7 or higher in reading, listening, writing, and speaking.
