India has restarted its e-visa services for Canadian nationals after a nearly two-month hiatus, according to sources familiar with the matter, signaling a partial normalization in diplomatic relations between the two nations.
The suspension of visa services for Canadian citizens was implemented on September 21, following a period of strained relations fueled by unverified accusations made by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Allegations of a supposed Indian involvement in the death of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a pro-Khalistani figure killed in Surrey, British Columbia, were made without concrete evidence, leading to heightened tensions between the countries.
However, last month, India had partially resumed visa services for specific categories, excluding tourist, employment, student, film, missionary, and journalist visas for Canadian nationals.
