Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has held another Express Entry draw, issuing 800 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to candidates with strong French-language proficiency. This category-based selection required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 466.
This draw marks the second Express Entry round in December, following a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw on December 2.
A Strong Finish to 2024
The latest draw follows a productive November, during which IRCC conducted six Express Entry draws and issued 5,507 ITAs for permanent residence (PR). Consistent with recent trends, candidates in the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and PNP continue to see steady invitations, reflecting IRCC’s targeted approach.
The "In-Canada" Focus Category
IRCC's new "In-Canada" focus category under the Immigration Levels Plan is a significant development. It is designed to prioritize candidates in the CEC and regional programs, with potential inclusions from the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). For 2024, this category has been allocated 82,980 PR admissions, accounting for over 40% of all planned admissions.
Opportunities for Francophone Candidates
French-speaking candidates outside Quebec are at the center of IRCC’s Francophone immigration strategy. With the allocation for Francophone PR admissions set to rise to 29,235 in 2025, ITA issuances for this group are expected to grow further in 2026 and 2027.
