Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) continues its robust invitation process as it recently issued invitations in the latest Express Entry draw, extending a warm welcome to 1,040 candidates.
In this general draw, candidates were required to attain a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 543 to be eligible for an Invitation to Apply (ITA). This draw marks the second in 2024, with the preceding draw on January 10 inviting 1,510 candidates in a general draw across all Express Entry managed programs. For consideration in that draw, candidates needed to achieve a minimum CRS score of 546.
The current draw follows a busy December in which IRCC conducted seven separate Express Entry draws throughout the month. Among these, two were all-program draws, and the remaining five were category-based selection draws, focusing on candidates with French language proficiency and expertise in trades, transport, STEM, agriculture, and agri-food occupations.
In the preceding year, 2023, IRCC hosted a total of 42 Express Entry draws. The majority of these (19) were all-program draws, previously referred to as general draws. Additionally, IRCC conducted 17 category-based selection draws between late June and December. There were also five draws specifically targeting Express Entry candidates nominated through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) and one draw exclusive to Federal Skilled Worker candidates.
As the new year unfolds, predicting the trajectory of Express Entry results remains challenging. IRCC has introduced a more dynamic approach, moving away from a predictable frequency of draws. The draw types and frequencies are currently uncertain.
However, according to the Immigration Levels Plan 2024-2026, IRCC has set an ambitious target of admitting up to 110,770 new permanent residents to Canada in 2024. Achieving this goal will require the issuance of a significant number of Invitations to Apply (ITAs), playing a crucial role in meeting the 2025 admissions target of 117,500. It's important to note that the issuance of ITAs in 2024 is pivotal, considering that IRCC typically takes up to six months to process an Express Entry application.
As aspiring immigrants await further developments, the Express Entry system continues to be a dynamic avenue for individuals seeking to make Canada their permanent home.
