Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued 471 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in the first Express Entry draw of the year. The January draw focused on Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates, requiring a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 793.
Express Entry Draw Trends
This draw follows December’s two PNP-focused selections and a French-language proficiency draw, which collectively resulted in 2,561 ITAs. The January draw continues IRCC’s trend of emphasizing PNP candidates, Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates, and French-language category candidates—a pattern observed throughout 2024 and expected to persist in 2025.
In 2024, IRCC prioritized these groups, underscoring their importance within the two key categories of the current Immigration Levels Plan:
Federal Economic Priorities: This category includes candidates with professional experience in healthcare and trades occupations, as well as French-language proficiency.
In-Canada Focus: This category covers candidates from the CEC and PNP streams and may include candidates from other Express Entry programs.
Immigration Levels Plan for 2025
The newest Immigration Levels Plan allocates 124,680 landings to Express Entry pathways, with the majority expected to come from the Federal Economic Priorities and In-Canada Focus categories. These two streams will likely dominate IRCC’s admissions strategy for the year, reflecting the government’s goal of balancing labor market needs and demographic priorities.
Candidates with French-language proficiency, healthcare experience, and trades expertise are anticipated to remain at the forefront of IRCC’s targeted draws.
