Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has conducted its third Express Entry draw this week, issuing 1,000 invitations to apply (ITAs) to candidates with strong French language proficiency. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score required for this category-based selection draw was 444.
This draw follows two previous draws held earlier this week. On October 7, IRCC invited 1,613 Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates with a minimum CRS score of 743. On October 9, 500 Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates were invited with a minimum CRS score of 539.
The focus on French-speaking candidates marks a departure from recent trends, which have seen a significant emphasis on CEC draws. In fact, this is the first category-based selection draw for a group other than French-speaking candidates since a draw for healthcare workers on July 5. IRCC has issued 21,800 ITAs to CEC candidates since July, reflecting a strategy to prioritize those already working in Canada.
While the reasons for this shift are unclear, it may indicate a desire to diversify the pool of Express Entry candidates and ensure that Canada attracts skilled workers with diverse language abilities.
This is the third Express Entry draw held in October. Last year, IRCC conducted four draws throughout the month, inviting a total of 9,173 candidates.
