In the pursuit of building a diverse and skilled workforce, five Canadian provinces have extended invitations to candidates to apply for nomination under the Provincial Nomination Program (PNP). This program allows provinces to select economic immigration candidates who are best suited to integrate successfully into their local workforce, contributing to regional economic growth and development.
Under the PNP, provinces identify and nominate candidates either through the federal Express Entry application pool or by accepting direct applications from individuals who wish to settle in a specific province. This collaborative approach between federal and provincial governments serves as a vital channel for welcoming newcomers to Canada.
The federal government allocates a designated number of nominations to each province annually, with a target to admit 105,550 new permanent residents through the PNP by the end of 2023. This initiative plays a crucial role in shaping the country's immigration landscape.
Here's a summary of the recent provincial immigration results from August 26 to September 1:
Ontario:
On August 30, Ontario extended invitations to 772 candidates through the Masters Graduate stream of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). This draw was general, with no specific occupation requirement, and candidates needed a minimum score of 44.
Eligibility criteria for this stream include candidates being international graduates holding an Ontario master's degree, possessing a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score of 7 in an official language, and having adequate settlement funds. They must also have resided in Ontario for at least one of the past two years.
British Columbia:
British Columbia conducted its weekly draw on August 29, inviting over 150 candidates from the Skilled Worker and International Graduate streams in four separate draws. The largest draw targeted tech occupations and invited 102 candidates with a minimum score of 88.
The remaining draws included:
- 28 early childhood educators and assistants
- 20 healthcare professionals
- Less than five invitations for other priority occupations
Candidates in these categories required a minimum score of 60.
Alberta:
Alberta's Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) organized a draw on August 24, inviting 168 candidates through the Family Connection and Primary Occupation in Demand stream. These candidates have immediate family members already residing in the province, such as parents, children, or siblings. All invited candidates in this stream are also Express Entry candidates, with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 302 required in this draw.
Manitoba:
On August 30, Manitoba held its first region-specific draw of the year. In this draw, 288 candidates in the Skilled Worker stream of the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) were invited to apply for nomination. Eligible candidates needed to declare their current employment in Manitoba and their intention to live in a community outside of Winnipeg, the provincial capital. They also had to meet a minimum score of 600.
Prince Edward Island (PEI):
PEI issued invitations to 22 candidates through the Labour and Express Entry stream of the PEI PNP on August 31. These invitations were extended to individuals working in healthcare, manufacturing, food processing, and construction sectors. Since September 2022, the province has invited a total of 2,602 candidates, with 97% of invitations issued in the Labour and Express Entry stream.
These provincial immigration initiatives underscore Canada's commitment to attracting skilled talent and fostering regional growth. The PNP continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the country's dynamic and diverse workforce, contributing to its prosperity and innovation.
As Canada remains an attractive destination for immigrants worldwide, these provincial draws represent the open arms and welcoming spirit of the nation, embracing newcomers and their potential contributions to its vibrant communities.
