Ontario, British Columbia, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan Issue Provincial Nominations

By Jessica Thakur, September 17, 2024

September 6th to 13th: Provincial Immigration Results

This past week, four Canadian provinces — Ontario, British Columbia, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan — issued provincial nominations through their Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs), targeting immigration candidates with specific professional skills, employment offers, and eligibility.

These programs allow provinces to address regional labor shortages by selecting candidates who meet their specific needs. Each PNP uses its own scoring system, or the federal Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) if aligned with Express Entry, to rank candidates. The scores across different PNPs are not directly comparable but reflect eligibility within each province’s unique context.

British Columbia

On September 10th, the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) invited candidates through the Skilled Worker International Graduate stream, aligned with the Express Entry British Columbia (EEBC) option. Invitations were issued based on specific indemand professions, with varying cutoff scores:

Childcare workers: Minimum score of 83 (30 invitations issued)

Construction workers: Minimum score of 89 (19 invitations issued)

Healthcare workers: Minimum score of 99 (18 invitations issued)

Tech workers: Minimum score of 117 (84 invitations issued)

Veterinary care workers: Minimum score of 80 (at least one invitation issued)

For a full list of indemand occupations in British Columbia, refer to the province’s official resources.

Ontario

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) held multiple draws on September 10th and 12th under the Employment: Job Offer and Human Capital Priorities streams.

 September 10th:

International Students stream: 806 candidates invited, with a minimum score of 67, and job offers in health or skilled trades.

Skilled Trades stream: 15 candidates invited, requiring a score of 67 and a job offer in a skilled trade occupation.

InDemand Skills stream: 647 candidates invited, needing a minimum score of 34, with eligible job offers in Ontario.

 September 12th:

Human Capital Priorities stream: 1,269 candidates invited, requiring scores between 414 and 444, and work experience in healthcare.

Manitoba

On September 12th, the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) issued 206 Letters of Advice to Apply under the Skilled Worker in Manitoba stream. To be considered, candidates needed:

Current employment as a Cook (NOC 63200) or Chef (NOC 62200).

Postsecondary education completed in Manitoba (for themselves or their spouse).

Of the 206 invited candidates, 21 held valid Express Entry profiles, offering them an additional pathway to permanent residence.

Saskatchewan

The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) held a selection on September 12th under the OccupationsInDemand stream, inviting 32 candidates. To qualify, candidates required:

 A minimum score of 88.

An Education Credential Assessment (ECA) or a degree from a Canadian postsecondary institution.

Employment in one of the specified National Occupation Classification (NOC) categories, including financial managers, human resources professionals, cybersecurity specialists, university professors, and more.

The draws from these four provinces highlight the importance of aligning one’s professional experience and qualifications with provincial labor market needs, especially in sectors such as healthcare, technology, education, and skilled trades. As provinces continue to issue nominations, candidates have more opportunities to secure permanent residency through Canada’s PNPs.
