Provincial Immigration Draws Invite Candidates to Pursue Permanent Residency in Canada

By Jessica Thakur December 5, 2023

Amidst the ongoing initiatives to bolster Canada's immigration framework, five provinces—Ontario, British Columbia, Quebec, Manitoba, and Prince Edward Island (PEI)—have recently extended invitations to prospective candidates for their provincial immigration programs. These initiatives reflect the collaborative effort between federal and provincial authorities to strengthen the nation's economy and social fabric through strategic immigration.

The Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs), operational across all provinces and territories except Quebec and Nunavut, facilitate the selection of candidates who exhibit a promising potential to contribute to the respective provincial economies. A provincial nomination significantly bolsters a candidate's application for permanent residency in Canada.

The collaboration between Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and provincial governments plays a pivotal role in shaping immigration policies. Minister Marc Miller recently convened with provincial counterparts in discussions aimed at aligning priorities and optimizing immigration as a catalyst for economic prosperity.

Highlighted topics during the November 18 meeting encompassed streamlining immigration programs, reducing processing times, addressing labor market needs, and aligning work permits with provincial demands. Moreover, the discourse also delved into collaborative strategies to mitigate challenges pertaining to housing, infrastructure, and social services.

Provincial Immigration Results (November 25 - December 1)

Ontario: The province conducted a draw under the Express Entry Human Capital Priorities stream on November 30, inviting 1,052 candidates in healthcare occupations with Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores ranging between 404 and 430. Eligible candidates must demonstrate their intent to settle in Ontario, substantiated by factors such as employment, property ownership, or personal ties.

British Columbia: Through multiple draws on November 28 and 21, British Columbia invited a total of 185 candidates across various streams, including Skilled Worker, International Graduate, and Entry-Level. Draws targeted occupations such as early childhood educators, construction, and healthcare, with minimum scores specified for each category.

Quebec: On November 16, Quebec extended invitations to 1210 candidates for permanent selection, requiring a minimum score of 609 along with a proficiency level of 7 in French as per Échelle québécoise des niveaux de compétence en français.

Manitoba: Manitoba's recent draw on November 30 welcomed 148 skilled workers with close relatives in the province, alongside invitations for International Education Stream and Skilled Workers Overseas candidates.

Prince Edward Island: PEI invited 69 candidates on November 30 through the Labour and Express Entry stream, focusing on occupations in healthcare, manufacturing, food processing, and construction sectors.

The collective efforts of these provinces in welcoming immigrants signify a commitment to bolstering Canada's socio-economic landscape. Over the past year, these programs have extended invitations to thousands of candidates, showcasing their commitment to facilitating immigration pathways for prospective individuals seeking to make Canada their home.
