Canadian immigration hopefuls received positive news this past week, with three provinces issuing invitations to apply for provincial nominations. The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) allows provinces to select skilled immigrants who align with their specific economic needs.
Targeted Draws and Scoring Systems
Each province has its own PNP, and many conduct regular draws targeting specific occupations or international student graduates. To be considered, candidates typically require a minimum score based on a provincial scoring system that evaluates human capital factors like work experience and education. This mirrors the federal Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) used for Express Entry, but with a provincial twist.
A Look at Provincial Highlights
Ontario:
Issued Expressions of Interest (EOIs) through the Employer Job Offer: International Student stream.
Draws targeted skilled trades, healthcare, and tech occupations.
Minimum scores ranged from 66 to 72.
British Columbia:
Invited over 187 Skilled Worker and International Graduate candidates across five targeted draws.
Tech occupations received the largest draw with a high minimum score of 113.
Minimum scores for other draws ranged from 75 to 80.
Manitoba:
Invited 104 candidates through the Skilled Worker in Manitoba stream.
Minimum score requirement was 614.
Notably, 20 invitations went to candidates with existing Express Entry profiles.
The Importance of Provincial Nominations
Receiving a provincial nomination significantly strengthens an immigration application for permanent resident status with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
