The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced that PTE Academic will be accepted for the Student Direct Stream (SDS) program as of August 10, 2023. This means that students who take the PTE Academic test and meet the other requirements for SDS can now apply for a study permit in Canada through the expedited process.
The SDS program is a popular option for international students who want to study in Canada. It offers a faster and simpler application process, and students who are approved through SDS do not need to provide a letter of financial support.
To be eligible for SDS, students must:
Be a citizen or permanent resident of one of the following countries: Antigua and Barbuda, Brazil, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, India, Morocco, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Senegal, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, and Vietnam.
Have a valid offer of admission from a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada.
Have a minimum PTE Academic score of 60 overall.
Have a valid passport.
Students who meet the requirements for SDS can apply for a study permit online. The application process typically takes 2-3 weeks to process.
The acceptance of PTE Academic for SDS is a positive development for international students who are considering studying in Canada. The PTE Academic test is a reliable and accurate measure of English language proficiency, and it is accepted by a wide range of universities and colleges around the world.
