Three Provinces Issue Provincial Nominations Last Week

By Jessica Thakur, March 11, 2024

Last week, three provinces in Canada—British Columbia, Ontario, and Saskatchewan—made significant strides in their immigration programs by issuing invitations to apply (ITA) for permanent residence (PR) under their respective Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).

Each province's PNP operates with distinct criteria and scoring systems, leading to variations in cut-off scores for candidates. Here's a breakdown of the recent PNP results from March 2nd to March 8th:

Ontario

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) issued 2,104 invitations on March 7th under the Human Capital Priorities stream, targeting healthcare professionals. Candidates required a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score between 352 and 421 to be eligible. Invited candidates needed professional experience in various healthcare professions and met specific eligibility criteria, including having a valid Express Entry profile, relevant work experience, and language proficiency.

British Columbia (B.C.)

British Columbia conducted both targeted and general draws on March 5th, resulting in at least 156 total ITAs under the BC Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP). General draws were held under different streams, with candidates needing minimum scores ranging from 99 to 126. Targeted draws focused on professions in high demand within B.C.'s labour market, including childcare, construction, healthcare, and veterinary care.

Saskatchewan

On March 7th, the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) conducted draws under two streams after a hiatus of over two months. Under the Occupations In-Demand stream, 14 candidates with professional experience in targeted occupations were invited, while the Express Entry stream invited 21 candidates. Both streams required candidates to have an education credential assessment (ECA) or be educated in Canada and possess professional experience in specific professions.

The recent issuance of ITAs by these provinces underscores their commitment to attracting skilled workers and addressing labour market needs. As Canada continues to navigate immigration policies amid evolving global conditions, these proactive measures serve to strengthen the country's economic and social fabric.
